🆕 A New Chapter Begins in Zenless Zone Zero

Zenless Zone Zero is heading into its second year with a massive 2.0 update that promises to reshape the game’s world, systems, and story. Developer HoYoverse released an official dev blog teasing several core changes—ranging from new areas and factions to structural gameplay enhancements and more immersive combat dynamics. Here’s everything we know so far.

🌍 New Areas: Waifei Peninsula, Failume Heights, and Aerospace City

Waifei Peninsula will serve as the main setting of Version 2.0. Located near the Lemnian Hollow and once a monitoring zone, it’s now a populated district with layered secrets. The region’s name itself reflects its lore—derived from Cantonese characters that mean “protect” and “anomaly.”

Failume Heights, a scenic cliffside city within the Peninsula, is central to the story. Its economy revolves around Porcelume, a resource resistant to Ether Corruption. While on the surface it appears to be a thriving metropolis, dark conspiracies lurk underneath—hinting at deeper narrative twists involving Sarah, the Phaeton siblings, and more.

Aerospace City, nestled in the Lemnian Hollow, will also be partially explorable. Once unstable, the Hollow now features a more stable space used for Porcelume production. This new zone will be rich in both lore and challenges.

👥 New Agents, Characters & Factions

Yixuan: The Mentor Agent

Yixuan, a pivotal character in Season 2, is the head of Yunkui Summit. Known for her black wings and yellow cape, she plays a major role as a mentor to the Proxy and the main cast. Players will become her disciples, learning her mysterious craft and accompanying her into new Hollow expeditions.

New & Returning Factions

  • Obol Squad from the Defense Force returns.
  • Angels of Delusion, an idol-themed faction, makes its debut.
  • Other unnamed groups are expected to emerge as the story expands.

A new teaser trailer is set to drop on April 13, which may reveal more about these factions.

🗺️ Map Enhancements & Exploration System

The 2.0 update will completely overhaul map structures. Instead of separated zones, residential and combat areas will now be merged for a more immersive experience. Failume Heights was designed with future expansion in mind, resembling a functional city.

Travel improvements include:

  • A mini-map
  • Enhanced navigation tools
  • Improved visual clarity of New Eridu
  • Faster destination selection with a zoomable map

Additionally, a management simulation mini-game involving the Suibian Temple will allow players to complete local tasks that visually impact the city.

🧭 Story Structure Adjustments

To improve storytelling, the game will merge Special Episodes and the Phaethon Arc, resolving past pacing issues. This will better connect character narratives with the main story and ensure consistent content with every update.

Proxies will now be more involved, and each version will include fresh lore and story progress.

⚔️ Combat & Agent Role Rebalancing

Combat in Zenless Zone Zero has long revolved around heavy DPS gameplay. Version 2.0 aims to rebalance this by:

  • Enhancing off-field agent contributions
  • Adding visual cues for combat participation
  • Introducing new enemy mechanics requiring tactical planning
  • Improving squad synergy

These updates are designed to bring tactical depth back to three-agent teams, minimizing one-character carry builds.

There’s also a focus on relationship-building mechanics between Agents and Proxies. Expect slice-of-life experiences like hotpot dinners and movie outings—hinting at a light social/romance element.

🎮 Events & New Game Modes

Expect updates to existing events like Grand Marcel Adventure and Bangboo vs. Ethereal alongside new mini-games:

  • Casual Bangboo duels
  • Controlling a giant Bangboo in battle

These fun diversions will provide more variety and replayability outside the core story.
